Top Mountain Bike Parks in The UK
For those of you who are interested in scouting out the best riding spots in the UK or for those who simply want to ride somewhere new, this list will compile the best riding destinations from all over the country, so sit back, relax and perhaps take notes as the Christmas riding season is upon us.

Dyfi Bike Park

Dyfi Bike Park near Machynlleth, Wales, is the masterpiece of mountain biking’s most famous siblings, the Atherton's, and more specifically the brainchild of Dan, the elder of the World Cup-winning trio. The bike park has had years of dedication and hard work put into its range of intermediate and expert-level trails by the Atherton family, their friends and colleagues, and the Dyfi locals. It does not disappoint. One of the highest elevations of any UK mountain bike Centre and with over 650 acres of pure, raw adrenaline, and staging arguably some of the best official riding in the country, makes Dyfi Bike Park a must-ride destination. H
aving opened in 2019 with black-graded trails only, Dyfi now boasts two red runs and a pump track, while Land Rover and trailer shuttles whisk riders to the top of the mountain in a matter of minutes. At the expert end of the spectrum, 50 Hits, Original DH, Race Track and Slab Track offer just about every terrain you could ever imagine. Variously sized senders (small to very big), tricky technical puzzles, roots and rocks, and flat-out fast sections are complimented by machine-built berms. What’s more, everything is built to resist the at-times challenging Welsh climate. Dyfi’s new red runs promise flow and fun for intermediate and above riders. Super Swooper’s massive berms link one to the next and perfectly crafted, small and medium jumps offer plenty of airtime. The shorter El Hippo trail starts from halfway up the mountain and features turns, rocks and jumps; the Atherton's say it is the ‘perfect track to warm up, warm down or for party laps.’ Take their word for it, you’ll love it. The bike park is open Fri-Sun with a day pass costing £43. Shuttles run from 10am until 4pm (daylight depending). At around 11 minutes per uplift and five-to-10 minutes per run, that’s a decent amount of riding by anyone’s book. Full-face helmets are compulsory, and riders must be 12 years and older to ride Dyfi Bike Park. Local pinner and ex-pro racer Al Bond is on hand to offer highly praised coaching sessions. These include personal coaching (for groups of two) and package options. In the Advanced Coaching camp, Dan Atherton joins the fun to offer tips on the finer points of mountain biking. There's an on-site card-only cafe that sells breakfast, lunch, drinks and cakes all day. You can buy the odd spare (tyres and inner tubes) but it's best to come prepared. Dyfi is a stone’s throw from the town of Machynlleth, so there are various options for accommodation. The Atherton's recommend a range of lodging options, from eco-cabins to inns and everything between. As well as a fantastic coastline, there is also a wide range of other outdoors activities and mountain biking nearby, including the Climax Mountain Bike Trail (5 mins) and Coed-y-Brenin (45 mins). Overall, this is a solidly dependable location well worth the trip and won’t disappoint.

Leeds Urban Bike Park

It would simply be a crime for me not to include this gem of a bike park. With something for every age and ability, it truly is one of the UK’s top riding spots. Whether you’re looking for a fun family day out on the bikes, a solo adventure, somewhere for skills practice, or a place to meet your mates for a ride, Leeds Urban Bike Park seems to cater for all. This £1.2 million development built on the former Middleton Golf course offers riding for all levels and disciplines. Upon opening, Leeds Urban Bike Park boasted 4x tracks, jump lines and pump track sections and now also includes a cross-country circuit through the woods. This new circuit isn’t the final development either, there are still more se
ctions being built. The site includes a large cafe (great coffee, excellent scones!) with a generous amount of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating conveniently overlooks the smallest pump track, great for parents wanting to keep and eye on the little ones. You can also hire bikes for any ages. Having such a wide variety of tracks at varying levels makes it a great place to build up skills and confidence. For some, it’s a chance to give a new style of riding a try. The woodland trail is beginner friendly, well signposted and loops back onto itself allowing you to make your ride as brief or as long as you like. There are optional black lines of varying difficulty, some just steep and others with mandatory drops, so even the more advanced riders can find a new challenge. Several of the trails in the woods have been there for years, built by locals and adapted by the park. All the trails are linked together with a fire road – great for easing your little ones into their first mountain bike ride! So, if you find yourself in the Leeds area with a BMX, jump bike, mountain bike, tandem… go check out Leeds Urban Bike Park. Parking is free, it’s free to ride and all essential amenities are on site.
